How To Control Mosquitoes In Your Yard

It's important to do all you can to control the number of mosquitoes on your property. Mosquitoes can cause a lot of problems. They sting and carry diseases, such as West Nile Virus. The fewer mosquitoes you have around your property, the better. You can follow the advice detailed in this article to control the mosquitoes on your property and around your home.

Get rid of stagnant water

The first thing you want to do is make sure you walk around your entire property and look for and remove any sources of stagnant water. Stagnant water may include puddles, but items such as tires, kiddie pools, buckets, pans, dishes, plastic bags and trash cans also allow stagnant water to collect.

Along with emptying puddles and filling them with dirt, you also want to make sure you keep all trash and debris picked up to prevent rain or sprinkler water from pooling and becoming stagnant.

Keep the lids on your outside trash cans so water doesn't collect in the bottom of them. Also, tip your kiddie pools upside down after use to completely empty them. Set them up sideways if they are kept outside, or put them in the garage to store them until their next use.

You want to change the water in any bird baths often. Also, change out the water in your pets' outside bowls.

Don't over water your lawn

You want to make sure you only water your lawn as much as it needs to be. If you over water it, then it can collect water under the blades that attract mosquitoes. Also, you want to be sure your sprinklers aren't set to water your grass at nighttime. When the grass is watered at night, it will settle under the blades and draw mosquitoes. During the day, it will both evaporate and be absorbed correctly.

Use repellents

You can also keep mosquitoes away from the areas near your home by using such repellents as specialized candles. These candles let off a scent that mosquitoes don't like, and this is a great way to keep them away when you are outside.

When you get control over the mosquito problem in your yard, you'll find you enjoy spending time outside much more. You won't have to worry about being chased and stung by the mosquitoes while you try to relax in your yard. About Me

Dump Trucks, Bulldozers and Cranes, Oh My!

Welcome to my blog. I'm Kara Montgomery. My entire life, I have had an obsession with construction. When I was a little girl, I had a whole set of construction equipment toys I'd play with. As I got older, I read so many books on construction. Even though I didn't follow construction as a career path, this has continued to be something I'm interested in and I thought it'd be fun to create a little blog that covers various construction topics. There is really no specific construction topic this blog will cover, so anyone who has an interest in the construction industry will find something of use.
